The Best Shows & Movies To Binge Watch In Quarantine

Hi Friends! How are you?

Does anyone else think they missed the “everything is back to normal” memo because I feel like I’m the only one still in quarantine?! So if you’re still in quarantine as well, then good for you! We can be friends. But also, today’s post is for you since I’m sharing the best shows and movies to binge watch in quarantine in my humble t.v obsessed opinion.

I have made the rounds and have streamed close to everything (okay, maybe I’m exaggerating) in Netflix, Hulu and even Amazon Prime and these are my favorite picks!

The Best Shows & Movies To Binge Watch In Quarantine

Netflix

Schitt’s Creek

Oh my gosh. I could cry with how much I love this show. I don’t even know what to say, it’s just perfection. I love the cast, the characters, the storylines, just everything it stands for. It features an LGBTQ relationship in such a positive light. It creates this safe space for characters so you in turn feel happy and safe watching it. The one liners are the best and Dan Levy is a genius.

If you’re unfamiliar with the show, basically a very wealthy family loses all their money and has to move to this middle of nowhere town called Schitt’s Creek. It’s about their experience getting used to their new reality, the relationships they build with the townspeople and how they grow from their situation.

Eddie is going to be so mad at me for sharing this, but honestly both of us were sobbing at the series finale and the special episode they created to talk about the show. Be prepared to be super sad when you finish the series though because it will feel like losing a friend!! I could rewatch this series countless times.

Sweet Magnolias

Sweet Magnolias is a Netflix original and a pretty new addition to the streaming service. It gives you southern charm, small town drama and gossip and female friendships so yes, it is wonderful. Plus it stars JoAnna Garcia who I am obsessed with and her style in the show is so freaking cute.

The show basically surrounds three best friends that have been friends since childhood and it follows them through divorce, love, their career and their life. It can definitely be slow at times, but I think what draws you in are the characters because you either root for them or hate them, but either way you are invested in them. The series left off on a huge cliff hanger so I am hoping for a second season!

The Baby-Sitters Club

Another Netflix original and this one just premiered this month. Oh my gosh you guys, talk about a feel good show. This is a young adult show, but I was stunned and so impressed with how well this show was made. It talks about female empowerment, features really strong friendships and all around just sends such a good message.

It’s based on a book series, which I used to read, but don’t really remember it if I’m being honest. But, if you’re unfamiliar a group of friends start a babysitting club and the series follows their friendship, adventures and personal growth. Again, I know it’s for young adults, but I promise you, you will love it.

Never Have I Ever

This series came out the day after I was laid off and I truly viewed it as a gift from above. Mindy Kaling is my queen. She can do no wrong in my eyes. I was a huge fan of her self titled series and knew I would love this and of course she did not disappoint.

The series follows a first generation Indian American teenager. She had a very rough past year and hoping to make the current year her best one yet. It follows her relationship with her mother, her cousin, and her friends. It addresses her relationship with her culture and her goal to get her dream boy.

I’ll be honest, there are times you are rooting for her and times you want to slap her, but it’s just so real and so funny and just an easy feel good watch.

Netflix

Dead To Me

Okay, multiple friends had recommended this show to me and for some reason I just kept putting it off. But, I finally decided to watch it when the second season dropped. And oh…my…god..I don’t know why I waited! If you are into thriller and mystery novels then you will love this show.

The series follows Jen whose husband just died from a hit and run. She starts to attend this support group and meets Judy and they quickly become friends except Judy is not who she appears to be and both women have secrets they are keeping.

There are so many twists and turns, I never knew what was coming next and I was constantly shocked. My family wanted to kill me because I kept gasping in shock because I honestly could never guess what was coming next. It’s so good, I promise you you will fly through this one.

Dynasty

Those who know me, know I LOVE DYNASTY. I think it’s so underrated and needs more hype. It’s similar to Gossip Girl if GG had taken place in Atlanta and featured wealthy oil tycoons and entrepreneurs. Fallon is my spirit animal and her style is perfection. She has the best one liners and it’s just everything you want out of a CW drama.

All three seasons are currently on Netflix for easy binge watching. This show has great cliff hangers at the end of each episode and season. I’ve heard from some people that they think it runs a little slow and while I disagree, I recommend just sticking with it because I promise the story line will suck you in.

Lucifer

Don’t you hate when your significant other is right? Eddie’s favorite show is Lucifer. Seriously, he’s watched the series like 5 times already and the last season hasn’t even premiered. He will bring the show up in any conversation he can. He’s been trying to get me to watch it for a while now and I always turn him down, but last week I decided to humor him and give it a shot. And man, I am hooked.

The show follows the devil. Yes, the devil is in Los Angeles and he’s working as a consultant to a homicide detective who unlike every other woman, is not obsessed with him. The one liners in this show are iconic and I am constantly laughing, while also being fully invested in the homicide cases. The relationship with the devil and the detective is honestly out of a rom-com novel of two people arguing and I am living for it.

I’m only on season 2, but it’s so good I had to share.

Netflix

Queer Eye

I mean it’s Queer Eye. If you’re not watching this then what are you doing? It’s a good laugh, a good cry, just an all around feel good show that will give you so much confidence.

Floor Is Lava

I know it sounds silly, but hear me out! This show is great!

It basically took the childhood living room game of acting like the floor is lava and made it a real game where the floor is actually lava, or ya know, just looks like lava. It features teams of three and they try to make it across different courses without falling in the lava. It’s hilarious, but also will have you emotionally invested and make you scream and cheer them on.

It also makes me want to compete, but I just know I will fall in the minute it starts.

Hulu

Little Fires Everywhere

I mean, it’s Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. What more needs to be said?

This is based off a book and takes place in Shaker Heights, Ohio in the 90s. It really focuses on race and class issues and how it affects your decisions and choices. It forces you to think, it makes you question what is right and wrong and really shows you how situations are not just black and white, they’re grey and there is not always a perfect answer.

My mom and I watched this as it was released and we couldn’t wait till the next episode premiered. If you haven’t watched it yet, you are in luck because all episodes are up so you can binge it and don’t have to question everything after each episode!

Fixer To Fabulous

I came across this show while watching HGTV and loved it so much, I had to binge the entire first season.

The show follows married couple Dave and Jenny Mars who renovates homes in Arkansas. I am obsessed with them and think they are incredible. Dave is so funny and so innovative and Jenny is my spirit animal, always gets her way and her designs are what my dreams are made of.

They have the cutest family and live on a farm and it’s just such a feel good show. Plus it was renewed for a second season!

Hulu

The Amazing Race

My mom and I have been fans of The Amazing Race since season 1 and there are like 30 to 40 seasons so we have been watching it for forever! We’re naturally itching to travel just like everyone else so to help with that wanderlust, we decided to re-watch old seasons of The Amazing Race. If you’re unfamiliar with the show, it’s basically a reality show competition where 11 teams of 2 race around the world for a million dollars. We’re currently up to season 16 and have no regrets. It’s been nice rewatching old episodes and taking a trip down memory lane. And honestly, it’s just been something I look forward to when my mom comes home from work, just putting the show on and being in the moment with her.

The Real Housewives

I know. I know. Drama. Crazy. I get it. But honestly, I just love The Real Housewives franchise. It just makes me so happy. So far, I’ve watched New York, Beverly Hills, New Jersey, Dallas and Miami. I’m working my way through Atlanta then I have Orange County next and I’m on the fence on if I want to start Potamic. Sometimes you just need good trashy t.v.

Dance Moms

And speaking of trashy t.v, yes I started Dance Moms. I only made it up to season 3 so I’m not fully caught up, but wow, this is a ride. Honestly, when I was first laid off, I just wanted something to get my mind off my situation and something I could watch while I played Animal Crossing. And Dance Moms was the perfect thing. It is so ridiculous. Like no, it’s so ridiculous. Just think about the most ridiculous thing and Dance Moms is more than that. It’s honestly just so funny and so insane and it’s been nice to focus on something other than myself. The screaming, crying, storming out, this show is gold.

Amazon Prime

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

If you knew how amazing this show was and did not tell me, we are in a fight. My best friend Elizabeth told me to watch this and I’m so happy I did. The first episode alone is perfection and I was laughing so hard I cried. It is set in the 50s in New York City so yes it is as perfect as it sounds and the fashion in the show is perfect.

The show follows Midge who lives a perfect life in the Upper West Side that is turned upside down and ultimately follows her career as an aspiring stand up comic. It’s so funny and it’s perfection. I promise you will love it.

Upload

Upload is a new show on Amazon Prime. It’s kind of a weird concept so bear with me. But basically, it’s set in the future where everything is pretty much controlled by technology. In this future, you don’t have to “die” because if you are dying, you can choose to be uploaded to an afterlife of your choice where you can continue to live and communicate with your family. It’s a big industry that definitely favors the rich and pretty much everyone is in the business of working for or creating an afterlife. I know it sounds weird, but it’s actually pretty great! It’s funny at times, there is a mystery to solve, a budding romance, a failing relationship and this future world they created is so fascinating you will want to watch.

Degrassi: The Next Generation

Did anyone else watch Degrassi growing up? I looked forward to watching it with my mom every Friday night. I loved it so much, I remember going to Manhattan Mall when the cast did a signing. Anyways, they have old episodes on Amazon Prime so I’ve been rewatching it to take a trip down memory lane. It’s honestly still one of my favorite show and the opening song just gets me every single time.
