Is it me or is this week going by super slow? I know I said that last week, but I’m not crazy, right?? I woke up yesterday and was thinking HOW IS IT ONLY TUESDAY?? I need me a nap and a bubble tea, stat!
Anyways, today I wanted to talk about my current obsession, Self-Care Sunday. I’m probably late to the game and you all have been pampering yourselves for months now. But, I just started and it made me feel so good about myself that I wanted to share the importance of Self-Care Sunday in case you haven’t hopped on the train yet! So today, I’m sharing what I do for my Self-Care Sunday, why I think it’s so important and a few products that I like to use.
The Importance of Self Care:
Two or three weekends ago, I was feeling really down. Work was so busy and I was so unmotivated about everything. I felt like I was putting everything else in my life, but me first and stressing myself out over every little thing. So I decided to take some time to pamper myself. What started as a shower to just feel refreshed, led to a whole night of self care. I took a long, hot shower and shaved my legs to be silky smooth. Then I put on To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. Then I did a face mask and a nose strip. I cut my nails and gave myself a mini pedicure. I plucked my eyebrows. I used my favorite gel toner, my essence, my skin serum, a nighttime face mask and a nighttime lip mask. And let me tell you, by the end of it, I was smelling great, I felt great and I’m pretty sure I was glowing.
By the time Monday morning rolled around, I felt thoroughly relaxed and ready to take on the week. And I was wondering, why don’t I do this more often??
Spending the day pampering myself and showing my skin a little TLC, gave me the opportunity to slow it down, take a deep breath and to stop stressing and thinking about what’s next and rather focus on the now. It gave me a chance to focus on myself. And a chance to listen to my skin. I’m a pretty clean person, if I do say so myself. I shower every single day and I do my skincare routine everyday, but I may not have time to shave my legs, take a long and leisurely shower or do a face mask or a nose strip. You know, those extra steps that give your skin a little boost and makes you feel a little fancier. And so on Sunday, I took that time to show myself a little more love.
When Sunday rolls around, the Sunday Scaries definitely hit. I already start to think about the stress of the previous week and the to-do list for the upcoming week and it instantly overwhelms me. But, taking the time to focus on myself, really gave me the confidence to feel like I can take on the upcoming week no problem.
Throughout the week, there are 100 things being thrown our away. We spend so much time focusing on work issues, other people’s issues, etc and it’s so easy for us to kind of shut down and play the victim. Like, oh I can’t worry about her problems because I’m tired too! So I think taking a day to really focus on yourself and care for yourself, helps you be a better friend, girlfriend, daughter, wife, mother, employee, etc. Whatever you are! Spending time focusing on your mental health and giving yourself the attention you deserve, helps you then turn around and give your loved ones and your job the attention it deserves.
So I know we all like to make excuses. “I don’t have time.” “I don’t even have any skincare products.” Whatever it is, stop making excuses and just slow it down. Just take the time to focus on yourself before you’re thrown back into the hustle and bustle of life. Throw on a face mask while you read a book. Put on a nose strip as you watch the next episode of a show on Netflix. Shave your legs in the shower while you listen to your new Spotify playlist. Whatever your heart desires, just take the time to do it! Your body, your mind and those around you, will thank you for it!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about the importance of self care! I hope this upcoming weekend, you pull out your favorite face mask, slap on that nose strip and have yourself a moment to yourself. Until then, have a great rest of the week!
