Happy Friday!
We had a snow day in NYC yesterday which was fabulous and much needed. I worked from home and also was incredibly productive on working on my blog. The only downside now is battling the cold and snow to get to work today and I have a ton of things to catch up on!
Today I wanted to share my 2018 New Year’s Goals. I’m really excited for them and I put a lot of thought into this to make it a shorter and more meaningful list then my previous ones!
Outfit Details
Sweater: H&M (Exact style linked, the pink original version sold out online, but might be in stores!)
Denim: Abercrombie & Fitch. Booties: Dolce Vita. Hat: Topshop (similar). Clutch: Henri Bendel. Sunnies: Gentle Monster.
MY NEW YEARS GOALS
Create Original Content
In case the sweater didn’t give it away, in 2018 we are all about being ORIGINAL!
This year I just want to focus on creating content. When I first started blogging, I was just so excited and happy about everything. I would find the smallest detail on a wall, a random NYC street corner or see a parked cab and be inspired to take pictures. I was up for trying everything and anything. I found inspiration everywhere and pretty much stayed in my own happy little lane.
But, slowly I started to get a little lazy, a little unmotivated and a little stuck in comparing myself to others. Which affected my photos and content. To me and maybe you noticed too, but they felt a little forced and a little lackluster.
So for one of my first New Years Goals of 2018, I’m saying goodbye to double guessing myself and goodbye to worrying about what everyone else is doing and just focusing on creating fun and meaningful content and photos again.
And on that note, I stress that I want to create original content. Not to be a shady little lady, but I felt as if most of 2017, I would scroll through Instagram and find blatant copycat images. I get it. We’re all trying to beat the algorithm, but copying someone’s content and profiting from it, is not the way.
I’m holding myself to a higher standard in 2018 to make sure I respect myself and my readers to not copy and I’m also holding the people I follow to that standard. Here’s to saying goodbye to the copycats in 2018!
Invest In My Site
I had to be honest with myself when I made this decision.
The reality is, I’m no SEO or tech expert. I can read 101 articles about back end things I should be doing for my site. I could read a book on blogging for dummies and I still wouldn’t get it. Between my full time job and trying to blog, there’s not enough hours in the day. I love Live Laugh Linda and it makes me so insanely happy so I finally decided to invest in it to make sure it can be as great as possible.
Because honestly, I can spend whatever amount of money I want on clothes to post, but if my site is not the best that it can be, then what’s the point??
I’ve already taken steps to achieve this New Year’s Goal. For starters, I installed a new theme to give it a bit of a facelift. I’m really loving it and it’s the first time that I’m happy with every aspect of it. I’ve started working with an SEO expert and a tech team to help me navigate through everything and let me tell you, even hearing what needs to be done is like a different language to me. But it’s something I’m passionate about so I’m just monitoring my budget to make it work!
“Life Opens Up When You Do”
One of my favorite YouTube makeup artist, PatrickStarrr always says this.
This year he became the first influencer to collaborate with MAC and in his video he kept stressing “Life Opens Up When You Do.” And honestly it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve heard and is officially my 2018 life motto.
This is probably my favorite New Year’s Goal that I’ve made for myself. I have a lot of goals and dreams for myself. A lot that I don’t share because I think they’re wild or silly so I just keep to myself and keep dreaming. But, the great thing about life is that anything can happen regardless of how crazy it is. So this year, I just want to open myself up more, put my guard down and start chasing my dreams.
For example and I know it’s a little cheesy, but even though I love my blog, I never thought I could make something of it so I neglected it in a way. So, to start working with different people and investing in my site is a pretty big deal for me. I just want to put myself out there and if it doesn’t work out, then it doesn’t work out but at least I can say I tried.
It’s About The Journey, Not The Destination
This is a big one for me.
I’m the type of person, who goes to the gym on the first day and expects to drop 2 sizes overnight. I’m the person who wanted to start utilizing Pinterest more, but insisted I had to read 101 articles before I could start.
The point is, I constantly focus on the destination. I’m all about hitting that goal and when I don’t, I end up feeling discouraged. But, this year, I just want to enjoy the journey per say.
I want to celebrate and congratulate myself on every small thing because it’s one step closer to the end goal. So if I go to the gym for one day, well hey at least I dragged myself out of bed and did it.
So in 2018, we’re not gonna feel defeated and instead we’re gonna celebrate every little achievement.
So, friends, tell me, what are some of your New Years Goals? Let me know in the comments below!
Thank you so much for reading! Hope you’re all staying warm since the whole country is like in a deep freeze and have a great weekend!
