I Changed My Entire Skincare Routine Because Of TikTok

Hi Friends! How are you?

I’m sure you’ve heard of the age old saying “A lot of people have asked about my skincare routine….” When in reality, not one person has asked. Zero. Nada. Not one. But, here I am sharing it anyways. I have oily, acne prone skin plus I’m obsessed with all things beauty and skincare so I’ve tried my fair share of products. When quarantine started, I stopped wearing makeup, but my skin freaked out and I was breaking out like I was 13 all over again. So it’s no wonder why I consumed hours of skincare videos on TikTok. And with that being said, yes I changed my entire skincare routine because of TikTok. I changed my entire skincare routine because of @SkincareByHyram to be exact.

There are so many dermatologist, esthetician’s and skincare influencers on the app that have been sharing what you should and shouldn’t put on your face and why. And I have to tell you I was shocked because there were so many products on the “don’t” list that I was using or have used. So today’ I’m sharing my new & TikTok approved skincare routine.

I Changed My Entire Skincare Routine Because Of TikTok

CeraVe is a drugstore skincare brand that was developed in 2005 by dermatologist. The ingredients are great and there is no harmful fragrances in the product. Because of TikTok, it has become one of the most popular brands as of late and most retailers are struggling to keep them in stock! Here is what I’ve been using in my skincare routine recently:

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser

I’ve been using this cleanser twice a day, morning and night. I have oily skin so I use the foaming facial cleanser that targets normal to oily skin. If you have dry skin, I’ve heard amazing things about this one and if you have acne-prone skin, I’ve heard this cleanser works wonders.

It’s a simple cleanser with no fragrance or harsh chemicals. It does a great job with cleansing my face and does not leave me feeling super dry and tight after I wash my face. It’s around $15 and you get a decent amount of product and the packaging comes with a pump so it’s really easy to dispense.

CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen

This has been my daytime moisturizer because it has sunscreen, but most importantly, this specifically has a MATTE FINISH!! I have oily skin so I really don’t need anything to make me look dewy because it just ends up looking greasy. While sunscreen is so important and I will wear it regardless, I just love that this one has a matte finish because it doesn’t add to my natural shine. Plus it’s 2020, YOU SHOULD BE WEARING SUNSCREEN!! It does not matter how much money you invest in your skincare if you do not protect it from the sun. The sun will age you. Take action now!! And an honorable mention to this tinted one that is on my list to try!

CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

This has been my nighttime moisturizer. I’ve been really enjoying this because it’s not heavy at all, it’s pretty lightweight and it’s easy for me to rub into the skin. This moisturizer and the brand in general is known for having some really beneficial ingredients like hyaluronic acid that helps with moisture and niacinamide which helps control oil and brightens the skin. I always finish with this moisturizer at night to help lock everything in. If you have dry skin, I heard this one is amazing.

CeraVe Eye Repair Cream

One thing I’ve learned from various dermatologists on TikTok is that no product will fully get rid of dark under eye circles and bags. So if you’re looking for a miracle product, it’s not out there. You have to make changes to your sleep schedule and diet. With that being said, there are definitely products that can help plus it’s important to keep your under eye area moisturized. I’ve been loving this one by CeraVe. It’s a little over $15, it’s lightweight and blends out so easily and honestly I have really been seeing a difference in my under eye circles. Again, it’s not fully gone, but it has definitely helped to lighten them.

I’ve always heard rave reviews about The Ordinary, but I think it’s become even more popular since TikTok. The brand offers single ingredient serums and solutions that target specific skin problems at a ridiculously low price point. Most products range from $5 to $15 plus I love the glass dropper packaging. Pretty much any oil, acid or serum you can think of, they most likely have. For certain products, like retinol, they offer varying strengths so you can pick up what would be best for your skin based on sensitivity and exposure to the product in the past. Here’s what I’ve been using in my skincare routine recently:

**Since most of these products are selling out by the minute, I’ll be linking 3 different retailers to shop from!

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

This peeling solution is the viral red mask that looks like blood that you’ve seen all over social media. It’s basically an at home chemical peel that helps exfoliate your skin, even your skin tone and has anti-aging benefits. You use this once a week and leave on for no more than 10 minutes. If you’re new to the peeling solution, you should start out at 5 minutes. This product definitely stings at first which is natural. It shouldn’t burn, it should sting so if you feel like it’s burning, wash it off immediately. It’s also important to note that because this is a peeling solution, it’s extra important to wear sunscreen the next day as your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. I’ve only used this a handful of times, but it has done wonders for my skin. I can definitely see my skin tone even out.

Ulta. Sephora. The Ordinary.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

Hyaluronic Acid can be used morning and night and is great for helping your skin maintain moisture. As someone with oily skin, I still benefit from this product because oily skin does not mean your skin isn’t dry. It’s just as important to keep your skin moisturized, but if you have dry skin, this step is especially important for you. It’s recommend that you leave your skin damp before applying this so that it can really lock in that moisture. I’ve definitely noticed a difference after using this every day. I used to have small dry patches on my skin, but since using this, I’ve noticed my skin be more plump and moisturized.

Ulta. Sephora. The Ordinary.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

This is my holy grail product that I can not get enough of. I use this morning and night and it helps unclog your pores, evens your skin tone from blemishes and can help with brightening. It helps balance your sebum production which is basically what produces oil and what actually comes out of those blackhead strips, which you’re not supposed to use by the way! Like I’ve mentioned 100 times, I have really oily skin especially in my T-zone, my nose is the biggest offender and while this isn’t a magic cure to stop that, it’s definitely helped balance me out.

Ulta. Sephora.The Ordinary.

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG

This is my current favorite eye product. This caffeine solution helps with puffiness and under eye circles. It’s not a cream, it’s a liquid serum so it goes on ridiculously smooth and is so easy to blend out. If you have dry skin, especially around your eyes, this product will be amazing. I can definitely tell a difference with this product especially when I get little to no sleep, this helps me look alive!

Ulta. Sephora. The Ordinary.

Honorable Mentions:

I just got the Glycolic Acid Toning Solution in that I heard is amazing for exfoliation. I’ve yet to try it so I don’t want to share any recommendations, but I’ve heard great things! Ulta. Sephora. The Ordinary.

I’ve also heard amazing things about this Paula’s Choice toner that is on my list of things to try.

And I’m still looking for a vitamin C serum to incorporate into my routine. Most of the recommended ones are crazy expensive and just out of my price range so I’m still searching!

At the end of the day, skincare is so personal because what works for me, may not work for you so be open to trying different products and pay attention to your skin. If something is raved about, but you are breaking out then listen to your skin and stop using it.

I also recommend researching each product and learning about different ingredients to understand what you should be using and what you should be avoiding. I’m not a professional in any way, just someone who really likes skincare and has done research to learn more about it so take what I’m saying with a grain of salt! Take what any influencer is saying with a grain of salt! And do your research and listen to dermatologists. My favorites to follow on TikTok are @208skindoc and @dermdoctor.

Thank you so much for stopping by & reading!
