Summer Lovin’ :: A Friday Favorites Weekly Roundup

Hi Friends! Happy Friday!

Can you believe it’s the first day of June? The weather is still pretty rainy and some days are hot and some days are chilly. I absolutely hate on and off transitional weather. Like, who knows how to dress for that?? I leave the house in the morning in a sweater & jeans, step out for lunch and am sweating and go home at night wishing I had a jacket. I can’t deal.

But anyways, I’m really excited today to introduce a new series here on Live Laugh Linda… my Friday Favorites series!!

I know what you’re thinking, “Girl, this isn’t new, everyone has a Friday Favorites series” or “Girl, what took you so long??” to which I have to say, I know, I know. But, since I’ve been writing more themed and personal and longer posts, I just wanted a casual one where I could ramble and talk about random things like my favorite song of the week.

I’m calling it Summer Lovin’ because I was inspired by the idea of Summer Fridays, where most people have half days in the office or have a full day off. So I wanted a fun and casual post to put up. As of right now, this is just going to be a summer series, but if it does well and you guys are liking it, I may extend it!

I was really inspired by Kathleen’s Friday Five series and Dana’s The Friday Edit when I thought about starting my own. I’m still trying to figure out what I like, what I want the set up and format to be and what I want to share so please bear with me as I play around with it. But, without further ado, let’s get into it!

Jeffree Star Liquid Lip in Calabasas

I feel 10x more confident and more like myself when I’m wearing lipstick. Ever since I started wearing liquid lipsticks, it’s all I gravitate towards. I think Jeffree Star makes the best formula because it stays on all day, is smudge proof and is comfortable on the lips so it doesn’t have that tight dry feeling.

My favorite color is Calabasas and think it’s such a universal shade. Check the link for a more accurate photo of the color since here it looks a little different because of my editing!

Victoria’s Secret Satin Tie-Waist Jacket

Oh my goodness, I am obsessed. I wore this palm print satin jacket when I traveled to Puerto Rico and was so in love with my outfit if I do say so myself. It’s really easy to throw over anything and has been my go-to look since coming back to work. You can throw it on to dress up a tee or make it date-night appropriate by throwing it over a fun cami.

Not only does it come in this fun palm print, but it’s also available in a navy and pink. I have all of them and I can’t get enough!

Full outfit post coming soon!

My New Camera & Lens! The Canon 6d Mark II with a 50mm f1.2 lens

I’m in love! I’m in love! And I don’t care who knows it! *name that movie*

I had a canon rebel for about 5 years and it was slowly dying on me. Whenever my mom would shoot with it, it would freeze and taking photos was time consuming and challenging. She kept telling me “I am not going to Puerto Rico with that thing.” And since I know I take a ton of photos on vacation, I knew it was time to suck it up and invest in a new camera.

Then my boyfriend surprised before the trip with a new 50mm lens. I had been saving for it and almost didn’t accept it because I know how pricey it is, but he kept insisting. I’m really in love with my new equipment and think it’s the best investment of 2018 so far!

Lightroom & Presets

Friends, it’s no secret I like my routine. So much so that when I import photos, I put them into old school iPhoto. Long story short, with my new camera and RAW images, the only thing that imported my photos correctly was Lightroom. So I adapted and thank goodness I did so. My only regret was waiting so long. I took time last weekend to organize my lightroom and make folders for everything and even tackled my 4,000+ images to color code my selects.

And while we’re on the topic of lightroom, I’ve been loving the presets I’ve been using lately. I recently purchased the Jaci Marie presets and have been loving the warmer feel they give. My instagram feed has really transformed. I’ve also been eyeing some presets from Aspyn Ovard. I just love how easy they make the editing process!

My one true love, besides Kenny my 10lb chihuahua of course! I’ve been trying to curb my sweet tooth by eating more fruit and less candy. It’s no secret I love everything pineapple related, including the fruit itself. Summer hasn’t really started and so far, my mom and I have gone through about 10 pineapples and each one has been so sweet and delicious. It’s definitely my favorite summer fruit.

And I love that there was no shortage of pineapples (or pina coladas or pina coladas in pineapples) in Puerto Rico!

It’s always so hard to hop back into work after a long weekend, but it’s especially hard to jump back into a routine after a vacation. I honestly had so much fun in Puerto Rico and I’m so excited to share more about my time there so I was so sad to leave. I was definitely feeling those post vacation blues.

I’ve also been so exhausted and unmotivated this week. After spending over a week going at my own schedule and not having to get up early, it was hard to go back to those 6am wake up calls. Losing sleep mixed with the post vacation blues mixed with the rainy sometimes chilly/sometimes humid weather was not a good mix and I was not a happy Linda. But, thank goodness today is Friday so I’m hoping to rest up this weekend and get back into a routine.

As far as the blog is concerned, I’ve been a little uninspired and have had a bad case of writers block hence the lack of posts, but I’m feeling more inspired with the start of this new Friday Favorites series and with all the photos I took in Puerto Rico!

Full disclosure friends…. the bank account isn’t looking strong after my new camera & after my vacation. So I’m putting myself in a no spend zone and if it doesn’t fall into the living essentials category, we are not spending money on it! But, I wanted to share some of my favorite pieces I wore on vacation. All of these items are budget friendly and affordable so if you’re shopping for a vacay or just for summer, be sure to take a look!

I always try to pack light when I travel. Key word is try. And that usually entails leaving my skincare products at home and opting for whatever travel size items I have and let me tell you, my skin has suffered! So this time around, I was sure to pack my serum and overnight sleeping mask. Unfortunately the essence and makeup oil had to stay home, but I survived!

But, once I returned home, I was so lazy and deep in those post vacay blues and was a little lazy with my skincare routine. So now I have a big ole blemish on the side of my nose. So just a friendly reminder, take care of your skin!! Always take off your makeup and follow your skincare routine because you will regret it if you don’t!

I also wanted to share a few beauty items that I have my eye on. I’m especially excited for the Marc Jacobs items because they were limited edition, but highly raved about last summer. I was so sad to miss out so I’m happy they brought them back!

Watching…. Just finished Season 4 of Jane The Virgin and omg it was so good and I was so shocked at the season finale! If you haven’t watched, I highly recommend. Or if you need to catch up, do so ASAP and then slide into my DM’s when you watch the finale! Also watching the current season of Quantico. It’s so good this season and I love me some Priyanka Chopra!

Listening… Signed up for Spotify premium two weeks ago and I’m so happy I did. I’ve been really into Spanish music lately, specifically anything with Becky G in it so I’ve had Dura by Daddy Yankee ft. Bad Bunny, Natti Natasha and Becky G on repeat along with Sin Pijima by Becky G & Natti Natasha. Also loving Ariana Grande’s No Tears Left to Cry and Dance by DNCE!

Reading… The Wild One, which is the last in the Brooklyn Girls series. I started reading it by the pool and now read it during my train commute. I’ve loved both of the earlier books so I know I’m going to love this one. It’s already so good!

Have You Read it?

Now that we know what I’m reading, allow me to make some suggestions of what you could be reading! Here’s a quick roundup of some of my most popular posts in case you haven’t checked them out yet!

I’m no chef, but I tried my hand at making Kylie Jenner’s Shrimp Tacos Recipe.

Finally opening up on why I quit my dream job.

A follow up to that post, talking about the horror stories I dealt with while working at a fashion magazine.

Sharing the story of how my mother escaped her war-torn country and became an American citizen.

Is being an only child weird? I talk about my experience with being an only child and why it always made me feel a little different.

  • I always joke that I have commitment issues to everything, but my boyfriend. I’ve kind of been in a mood to change up the look of my blog. It’s a good thing I never spend a ton of money changing it because I can never stick to one layout. I’ve found a theme that I really like so I’m in the early stages of thinking of giving Live Laugh Linda a little facelift.
  • I took a ton of outfit photos in Puerto Rico and did so much while I was there so I’m excited to share my photos and experience in the upcoming weeks and address the main question I keep hearing… is it safe?

That’s all for me! I hope you enjoyed the start of this new Friday Favorites series. I actually had so much fun brainstorming for this and working on it so I’m excited to keep it going through the summer and possibly extend it if you like it.

Thank you so much for reading! As always, feedback of any kind is welcome.

Have a great weekend friends!
