Friday Favorites :: Vietnamese Vacation 2020

Happy Friday!

Back at it again with another Friday Favorites and this one is a special Vietnamese vacation themed one!

FIVE FRIDAY FAVORITES

We’re Vietnam Bound!

Today is my last day of work before I HEAD TO VIETNAM FOR TWO WHOLE WEEKS!! I am beyond excited if you couldn’t tell.

If you are new to the blog, here’s a bit of background information:

  • I’m half Vietnamese on my mom’s side, who is a single mother so the Vietnamese culture played a big part in my childhood.
  • I have four aunts who live in the U.S. Three of which are traveling to Vietnam as well. One who is specifically traveling with my mom and I along with her son, my cousin Jeffrey who I love and can not wait to spend time with.
  • My grandmother lives in Vietnam along with my mom’s two brothers who live in Vietnam so I have a ton of aunts, uncles and cousins.
  • Since it’s a big trip and an expensive trip, we are only able to travel every few years and try to go back every two years specifically during the Lunar New Year.
  • We bring a ton of gifts home so we are traveling with a lot of luggage. With our ticket, we are each allowed two checked bags and then a carry on and personal bag. We have so much stuff that we are paying to check in a fifth bag as well!

So now that you’re all caught up, I’m just really excited to see and spend time with my family, enjoy the warmer weather, explore Vietnam, ride around in motorbikes and just slow down and relax and unwind and I just can not put into words how excited I am.

Travel Itinerary

We have a full 24 hours of travel ahead of us! Honestly, normally I would be having a full blown panic attack and I’m sure I’m gonna be anxious tomorrow, but I’ve been taking these Hum Nutrition Big Chill capsules and I think they’re working because I feel pretty mellowed out and not stressing the small stuff. So hopefully it sticks!

So we are flying United from Newark International Airport. My aunt & cousin have an earlier flight from Boston down to Newark where we will meet up. We then have a 14 hour flight to Japan, about a three hour layover then a 6 hour flight to Vietnam where we’ll arrive in Ho Chi Minh City midnight Monday morning which is around noon on Sunday afternoon EST. From there, we have about a 5 to 6 hour drive to my mom’s town of Can Tho.

The funny thing is my other two aunts are leaving the US on Sunday so we’re actually just turning right back around to get them. But at least I’ll be showered, changed and able to explore Saigon at night a bit!

Vlogging The Trip!

How many times can I say “I’m so excited in this post”? Well, the limit does not exist because I am so excited about this!

I used to have a YouTube channel when I was in college. I had a hard time keeping up with it and finding privacy to film and YouTube in general was just so different back then. I’ve been wanting to get back into YouTube for a while now, but just didn’t know what I wanted to do. Last year I really got into travel videos. It started as me just enjoying watching people go to Disney World and then evolved into me just loving following along on someone’s travels.

So I picked up a little vlogging camera and I’m planning to vlog the trip. I’ve already started filming my packing adventure and the camera is so great. I’m definitely nervous because I know people look at you like you’re crazy when you talk into a camera, but I really wanted to record the trip so I can look back on the memories and so my family in the US and my family in Vietnam could look back as well and to take you guys along on my trip in a more in depth way than photos and a blog post.

Things To Do On The Plane

While I am anxious about traveling, I also get really bored and just hate sitting still. In my past United flights, they had great movies to watch so I’m hoping the selection lives up to my memories.

Since I’ve done this trip before, I kind of know what to expect and what to bring/download that’s gonna help distract me. I downloaded a ton of books to read since I’m really trying to hit my 30 goal this year. I also downloaded a bunch of movies. Thank goodness for Disney Plus!! I downloaded so many of my favorites already as well as some movies on Netflix. I also had an iTunes credit for three movie rentals so I downloaded that as well. Hopefully all of that will help me make it through this flight!

Vietnamese Food

I can’t wait to eat my weight in yummy Vietnamese food!! My favorite breakfast is a waffle folded like a taco and stuffed with sticky sweet rice. I also can eat a hot bowl of pho in any weather and any time of day. My absolute favorite dish that they always make for me is curry chicken. I’m drooling just writing this.

THIS WEEK WAS

*SLOW*

I wanted to keep this post focused on my Vietnamese vacation, but did anyone else feel like this week went by incredibly slow?!

Personally Monday flew by, but the rest of the week just dragged on. One of my coworker’s is actually on vacation the same time that I am and anytime we passed each other in the hall, we would say “just three more days!” Let’s just say I am so over it that I would rather sit on the plane than deal with work lol!

SHOPPING ADVENTURES

I did A LOT of shopping for my trip, but I also returned a ton of things so my credit card was all over the place. It’s hard shopping for warm weather clothes in January! Retailers haven’t brought in their new Spring collection yet, they’re still working through Holiday inventory and it felt like there was nothing out there. But, I finally managed to get my vacation looks together and I’m really happy with them and can’t wait to share OOTD’s on Instagram and here on the blog in the coming weeks.

I’ve linked a few outfits today!

CURRENTLY…

Watching… I’ve been all over the place and haven’t watched anything consistently to be honest, just a lot of travel vlogs.

Listening…¬†Catching up on season 1 of the Pretty Basic podcast. I also re-downloaded all episodes of the most recent season of My Dad Wrote A Porno for the plane.

Reading… I’m almost done with One Of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus. I was a little uncertain at first since it’s not my typical genre, but I’m loving it and so close to being done with it and I don’t want to put it down!!

UPCOMING

  • I still have content planned for the blog while I am away, a lot of which will involve the topic of traveling since that has obviously been my focus and I’ve felt very inspired.
  • I’ll be posting photos and stories on Instagram when I connect to Wifi so feel free to follow along @lindaquinones_ if you are interested.
  • And I’ll be working on editing vlogs as well and will be sure to share them here when they are all ready to go.

Thank you so much for stopping by & reading!

I will see you next week from warm & sunny Vietnam!!

I’m leaving for Vietnam in 2 weeks, so probably getting there right as you leave! I’ve never been and we’re trying to see a lot – Saigon, Hue, the Phong Nha National Park – so I’m pretty excited as well. Also not so sure about the long flight and kind of in the same boat (trying to read 30 books this year). We’re going from MSP –> CHI –> Tokyo –> HCMC. Sheesh. Wish the MSP –> Tokyo direct had been cheaper.

Loved hearing about your upcoming trip, and so cool that your aunts are going at the same time.
