Week In Review :: A Friday Favorites Weekly Roundup

Happy Friday!

It has been a hot minute since my last Friday Favorites weekly round up.  Which means I have a ton to share with you. So let’s just get started!

Fanny Packs / Belt Bags / Bum Bags

Whatever you want to call them, I am very much into them. Once again, I’m late to the party with this particular Friday favorites item. But, better late than never. I’m still not into actually wearing this around the waist. But I really love the look of wearing it across your chest. And I have to tell you, as someone who LOVES handbags but also hates carrying things, I felt so free with this on. Hands were free, I was moving all around. It was so great. This one was a random one I picked up at a sample sale at work a long time ago. But I’ve since upgraded and picked up two new ones. You guys are going to laugh, but I picked up a Hello Kitty Levi’s collab one and a mickey ears Disney one. Both of which I am obsessed with. But I’m also eyeing this one!

Also how cute is my mom?!

Gucci Bag

I see it. I like it. I want it. I got it. Yuh!

Okay jokes aside, I treated myself to this bag after an amazing Mother/Daughter MET day, which if you’re new here, every May, my mom and I head uptown to the MET museum to see the newest fashion exhibit, eat at our favorite diner a block away then window shop and bond. It’s a tradition that started in college and I look forward to our day every year. And this year, as our day was winding down, we popped into Gucci because I’ve been eyeing this bag for a while now. In there we met the sweetest associate who also happened to be Vietnamese so we bonded over that. And the next thing I knew, I walked out with a brand new bag. As long as I can remember, I’ve been in love with handbags and I’ve been VERY blessed in the past to have built quite the collection from the generosity of my mom. But, this one I bought all on my own with my big girl money so I was very proud!

Ice Roller

Yes, I have jumped on the ice roller bandwagon and honestly, I don’t regret it. I really loved jade rolling, but I hated how the jade wouldn’t stay cool for very long even when I would leave it in the fridge. Plus, they are so expensive. I really love that the ice roller is bigger, it’s frozen so it stays cold the entire time and it’s pretty inexpensive. I’ve had it for a few weeks now and I really love it. It feels amazing on the skin and I really see the difference in my skin. Plus, this is great because I really struggle with redness especially around my cheeks and after I come out of the shower, my skin is just freaking out. So this helps calm my skin and prep it before I apply makeup.

The year is 2010. Blair Waldorf is queen and I have 101 headbands in my life. The headband trend is back and I couldn’t be happier. This time she is thicker, knotted and most likely includes velvet and pearls. I ordered this on a whim from Amazon for literally $3 and I love it. I don’t really style my hair much because frankly, I take too much time with my makeup, but also because my hair is just straight and flat and that’s that. So I love that this is such an easy way for me to style my hair and it really adds so much to an outfit. I want this in every color, variation and then some!

Starbucks Iced White Tea Guava Lemonade

If you’ve been with me for a while then you know my go-to Starbucks drink is a venti iced green tea lemonade. I even get it in the dead of winter because I just love tea. This summer Starbucks came out with some new flavored teas and I love them. I’ve tried the peach tea, I have yet to try the blueberry tea because I’m not sure I would like it, but my favorite tea is the guava lemonade one. It is so yummy and such a nice and refreshing treat at the end of the day.

Hydroflask Water Bottle

I’ve been trying to make more of an effort to drink more water. I truly can see the difference when I’m on top of my water game. I feel good, I don’t snack as much and my skin looks great. At Gap, everyone is all about recycling and sustainability and everyone has a reusable water bottle, specifically a Hydroflask one. And well, I give in to peer pressure easily so here we are. I love this one because it was part of their summer collection and I love color so this rainbow one makes me so happy. Plus I love the handle bottle cap because it makes it easier to carry around during the day when I have to head to meetings.

Chris Evans Fan Account

Before I started my new job, I took a week off to refresh. During that week, I told Eddie I wanted to get into Marvel movies and really do it right so we set off on a Marvel marathon. He had seen them all before so he was just going along for the ride with me and honestly, I am obsessed now. But, more importantly, I am obsessed / in love with Captain America himself, Chris Evans. Ya’ll, he is perfect in every way and we are getting married. I’m normally not one to obsess over celebrities and celeb crushes. I left that Linda back in college, but I adore Chris Evans and one of my fave Instagram accounts is a fan account that just shares gorgeous photos of him. Okay, I will stop fangirling.

*A Step Towards Personal Growth*

Okay, I know I keep mentioning my new job, but I haven’t been on here for a long time so I have lots to share, plus it’s a pretty big deal to me and a pretty big change for me. I moved into an area of the fashion industry that was completely different from what I was used to so everything was new to me. On top of that, I’ve had to take on more responsibility earlier on in my new role because of changes in team structure so it’s just been a lot. And on top of that, my new boss is one of my closest friends so it’s been interesting navigating that.

I had a bit of a break down last week where I just felt so overwhelmed and I shut down. Making me feel like so much pressure was being put on me, I was also putting pressure on myself and I felt like I wasn’t performing at my best and I was letting people down. Causing me to create this narrative in my head where everyone was disappointed in me and mad at me. So I put the wall up. I had a heart to heart with my boss/best friend which confirmed that I indeed was creating this narrative in my head and made me realize that I’m my biggest obstacle in life. I’m the one standing in my own way.

Not to have a therapy session with you guys and unpack a lot here, but I’ve had some tough experiences in the past with certain job and even with friendships and because of that, I’m very quick to put my guard up to make sure I don’t get hurt again. One of my first jobs, which I talked about in detail here, was a year of torture where I was told I did everything wrong and was just the worst. And because of that, I always set out to be the best and I want to do everything and do it right and give it my all and I put a lot of pressure on myself. Even with my blog, I put so much pressure on myself that I tend to shut down because I feel like I’m failing.

Anyways, what I’m trying to say is, this year so far has been a challenge, but not necessarily a bad one. I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone, I’ve challenged myself and been challenged by others, I’m learning new things and I’m growing, in my personal life and in my career. And at times it’s scary and overwhelming and I want to curl up in a ball and just be a kid, but it’s also felt so great to learn and grow and feel like I have a purpose.

Anyways I’ll stop here, but that’s just a little peek into what’s been happening in my life lately!

Not to bring up the Nordstrom Sale since it’s finally over and done with, but I picked up two items that I actually really love. I picked up this plaid blazer because I feel like I missed the plaid blazer trend last fall and I’ve just been loving them. I also picked up these leggings because I wanted a new pair for travel and for the weekend when it gets cooler out. These fit me perfectly lengthwise and since I’m petite and nothing ever fits perfectly, I was over the moon happy!

Earlier this month, I was so good at saving money, but now I’ve been bitten by the fall shopping bug and I just want everything. I’ve specifically been loving Madewell, Zara & Levi’s lately!

A few weeks ago I got the sudden urge to switch up my entire skincare routine. I’ve always loved Tatcha products, but suddenly I wanted ALL Tatcha products.

I picked up this face wash that feels amazing on the skin.

This scrub that I am beyond obsessed with!!

This essence because it was less expensive than my favorite one and I just love essences.

And This moisturizer, which feels great on the skin.

I also got all these products for truly a steal because I’m VIP Rouge so I can cash in points for a gift card. It takes 2500 points to redeem a $100 gift card. And since I already received my fair share of samples from my Sephora Play box, I never redeem points for samples and so I had a ton of points. Enough to pick up two $100 gift cards! It’s such a great tip for those of you who are VIP Rouge. Save up your points and head to the app or site on Tuesday to redeem the gift card. I was told that it was first come, first serve and competitive, but I redeemed mine at around noon and was still able to!

I’ve also been wearing a very minimal “no make-up, make-up look” and if you know me and how much I love a full face of makeup, you would know this is a pretty big deal! But I’ve found some really great products, plus I just can’t stand this heat so I’ve been content with my routine.

I first apply sunscreen.

Then I go in with this redness treatment that also has SPF.

Then I follow it up with this moisturizer that also has SPF. I also picked up the serum foundation, which I have a love/hate relationship with, but for the summer I’m content with just the moisturizer.

And finish it up with this powder, which I apply using a beauty blender. Throw some mascara, eyeliner and a hint of blush and highlighter. I finish off with this spray, dab it in with a beauty blender and I’m out the door!

Watching… The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills! I’ve been binge-watching all the Housewives series since they added them on Hulu. So far, I’ve made it through New York, New Jersey & Miami. No shame in my reality t.v show game.

Listening… Ever since I started my new job, I haven’t had as much time to listen to my podcasts, but I just started a new true crime one. I’m literally only on the first episode, but it’s great so far. It’s called The Clearing and is about a woman who suspects her father is a murderer and calls a detective to turn him in based on her suspicions.

Reading… So my 100 book goal is nowhere near complete. My commute has been cut in half and while it’s been great, it also cut my reading time in half so I’ve been pretty behind! Two books I’ve finished and loved recently were Meet Cute by Helena Hunting & The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. I’m almost done with Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes which is the sequel to “You” and honestly it’s so good. I actually like it more than the first and something about it is just much creepier!

  • I’ve been really into sunscreen lately. It is the most important step in any skincare routine and it is the easiest way to protect your skin from anything. But it’s so hard to find the right one. But, Sharmili shared her top 8 favorites and I want to try all of them.
  • My favorite blogger who I’ve been following for years recently went viral because of a twitter troll. She honestly handled the situation with such grace and class and it made me respect her so much more. Plus she recently hit one million followers on Instagram and I couldn’t be happier for her!
  • Not necessarily a read, but my good friend Emma works as a publicist in the publishing world and she is just amazing in every way and her Instagram is perfect. Anyways, she recently hosted two events in Texas and they looked amazing. She is quite the party planner!

  • I’m not sure what I have planned for this weekend honestly. Last weekend I was all over the place and a little too willing to put out my credit card so I might just lay low at home and freeze my credit card in the freezer to keep her safe! Plus my period is coming so I’m cranky and just want to be at home and eat. The new Avengers movie just came out on DVD so Eddie & I might just stay home and watch that and I’m also in the mood to watch Crazy Rich Asians and ball my eyes out.
  • As for the blog, I’m not sure what I have coming for next week. I don’t know why, but I’ve just been finding my editorial calendar to be standing in my way and not helping me at the moment. I know it’s just me and I’m being weird. I’ll get over this weird hump soon I’m sure. So I’ve just been going through my list of ideas and writing when inspiration strikes.

Okay, that’s all from me! Thank you so much for reading and being so supportive of my first week back to blogging. I really appreciate it and hope you have a great weekend. See you next week! Byeee!!

LOL consider me late to the party as well, because I’ve been eyeing a bum bag too! I’m really taking my time in getting one because a) the ones I want are not cheap and b) I’m afraid they will go out of season soon.
