Happy Hump Day! I can’t even begin to tell you all how excited I am that tomorrow is my Friday! Tomorrow is also Teen Vogue’s last day at 4 Times Sq and even though I by no means have been in that building long enough to feel nostalgic, it’s still kind of sad to see all of the boxes and crates all packed up. At the same time I still can’t believe that One World Trade center will be my new home. I’ve always seen that beautiful building as a sign of this city’s strength and regrowth and it’s even been featured as the background for some of my blog pictures so I still can’t believe that I will be working there.
If working in fashion since May (and watching House of DVF, my new favorite show) has taught me anything, it’s that if you want to have the fancy title of Senior fashion market editor, fashion director or editor-in-chief as well as the big paycheck that comes along with it, you have to pay your dues. I’ve been to M&J Trimmings & Mood fabrics more times than I care to admit to buy tulle, feathers and whatever else the stylists feels is necessary. I’ve ran all the way uptown in the rain to pick up fine jewelry before running it over to Brooklyn in time for a Vanity Fair shoot. I’ve had to run to different PR companies in order to pick up looks & accessories that might not even get shot or seen by the stylist. This past Monday I ran all around the city for a pair of shoes that couldn’t be tracked down only to find out the stylist no longer wanted them, before having to run to Dumbo to drop of additional looks and shoes. Did I also mention it was cold, raining and I was feeling under the weather?! Frankly it gets incredibly hard sometimes, but it’s also really cool knowing that what I’m doing is part of a much bigger picture. And when it gets extra hard I always remind myself that those market editors I look up to and respect were exactly in my position not too long ago. So basically the moral of that story is, I’ve been dressing extra comfortable and simple this week because of the constant running around and packing for shoots and for the move. A button down & black pants are my go-to and I especially love a red plaid shirt for the Holidays!
